What a gorgeous wedding.  This might be one of my favorites. Fizelwink Photography wrote, “Jennifer and Beth had a wonderful wedding surrounded by family and friends! Jennifer had an absolutely phenomenal vintage themed dress that we just couldn’t get enough of! You can’t get a more beautiful ceremony location than Albuquerque’s own Botanical Gardens and(…)

Hey! Happened across your blog by accident (vetting a designer who is somehow associated with someone on your site) … But here’s my question. I didn’t always know I was GAY — but I DID always know I didn’t like WEDDINGS! My cunundrum: I’ve now found the love of my life … Between us we have 3 kids and oodles of loving family/friends. She is is UBER not romantic and I’m only slightly less uber in that regard. But we just filled out the DP forms (we’re in CA so it’s the best we can do) … and that just does not seem enough to honor our relationship. But gag me… Don’t want to spend $5K (I know that’s cheap for a wedding but still more than I have to pay for this stuff) on a party. Is there some sort of middle ground of gay wedding bliss (when I married a man we had a picnic in a park — I want more than that this time — b/c THIS time I so very sure I am in the right place iwth the right person). Anyway … would love your perspective.

i love your comment. there are so many things i want to reply, but i’m going to try to narrow them down into two main points:
    1. have you read the a practical wedding blog? http://www.apracticalwedding.com if not, you must. it talks endlessly about figuring out and having the kind of “wedding” that YOU want and that it’s OK to do things your own way (i.e. you are not required to do anything romantic or traditional, if you don’t want to), AND that it’s OK not to even LIKE weddings! 🙂 there are lots of examples on the site of real weddings with couples who did just exactly that- what they wanted to do. does that mean it will take some discussion and attempts at figuring out what it is that you want, yes, but it doesn’t hurt to try to get some ideas from others.
    2. this brings up my favorite thing about gay weddings – we don’t even have a certain “tradition” or set of traditions that we have to follow – we are pioneers in our world – we can create the “wedding” or committment ceremony that we want to, how we want to. and no one can tell us, that’s not how gay weddings are done. you can have a celebration of some sort to honor your relationship however you feel represents you the best – and to be honest, from my experience and from reading MANY, MANY wedding blogs, almost every single post-wedding couple, when asked, what was your favorite part, say: the ceremony and being surrounded by important friends and family. the party is just icing on the cake. so, come up with a little ceremony for you two – say your vows or express your love and committment to each other and then have a big ole’ pot-luck dinner party to celebrate 🙂
